The Skybox System for Metin2 is a client-side environment feature that controls how the sky and overall map atmosphere are rendered in-game.

In Metin2, the sky is not just a static image — it is built using a 3D skybox (cubemap system) that wraps around the entire map environment, creating day/night, weather and mood effects.

This system allows developers to:

  • Change sky textures dynamically per map
  • Create day, night, sunset or custom atmospheres
  • Control lighting + gradient effects
  • Improve immersion with custom environments

Technically, Metin2 skyboxes work by mapping textures onto a cube-based environment (6 faces) or optimized cross-layout textures depending on implementation.

Developers can configure sky behavior through environment files (msenv / map settings), where sky textures, gradients and lighting parameters are defined.

⚙️ Features

✔ 3D cubemap-based sky rendering
✔ Per-map sky customization
✔ Day / night / weather atmosphere control
✔ Gradient light blending system
✔ Compatible with custom textures (DDS / PNG)
✔ Engine-level environment integration

🧩 System Overview

  • Map loads environment file
  • Skybox texture is assigned
  • Engine renders cubemap around world
  • Lighting + gradient applied
  • Dynamic atmosphere displayed in real-time

🎯 Use Cases

➡ Oldschool / PvP servers
➡ Custom themed maps
➡ Seasonal events (winter, Halloween, etc.)
➡ High-quality visual upgrades
➡ Full world rework projects

📌 Notes

Skybox systems in Metin2 often require careful texture formatting and lighting adjustment, otherwise visuals may appear inverted or broken due to engine coordinate handling.
